DIALECT research projects are organised in three work packages: Model, Measure, Make. The research projects within each work package focus on the urgent steps to improve modelling, measuring and making personalised medicine solutions for diabetic foot disease. Collectively, these contribute to the main DIALECT aims.
Model
Our work package “Model” focuses on the development of novel personalised risk-stratification schemes for diabetic foot ulceration and amputation. We will apply integrated imaging and gait models to sub-populations of people with diabetic foot disease to better understand the mechanisms and pathways of foot deformity and ulcer recurrence. And finally, we will adapt and apply models to develop new approaches to personalised interventions for the Charcot foot and patients in remission. Learn more
Measure
Our work package “Measure” aims to establish state-of-the-art personalised physical activity and adherence profiles, develop a new smart wearable monitoring system for cumulative plantar tissue stress measurements, and develop an in-shoe shear load measuring system. Learn more
Make
Our work package “Make” has the aim to support patients in diabetic foot ulcer prevention through state-of-the-art scientific-based and data-driven footwear interventions, to develop beyond state-of-the-art personalised footwear to get the right shoe for the right patient at the right time; and to integrate international expertise on data-driven design approaches and material science with experience in factory-made and custom-made footwear manufacturing.
