University of Copenhagen is the oldest university and research institution in Denmark. Founded in 1479 as a studium generale, it is the second oldest institution for higher education in Scandinavia. Its location in the capital city makes UCPH’s development, key people and events part of the history of Denmark. UCPH is ranked in the top 100 universities in the world and the 7th best university in Europe. The university consists of 6 faculties, with 36 departments and more than 200 research centres. Nine Nobel Laureates come from UCPH. 3,096 PhD students are currently active in the university, with 750-800 yearly PhD’s awarded. UCPH offers researchers and students the opportunity to develop their talent and launches ambitious interdisciplinary initiatives to support its strong academic communities.
